Batterham Award

The 2009 Batterham Award, in memory of the late Dr Ted Batterham, was presented to Dr Rebecca Morrison. This award is in recognition of the achievements of young scientists working in pig R&D in Australia. The award is sponsored by the Australasian Pig Science Association.

APSA Medal

The APSA Medal for 2009, an award sponsored by the Becan Consulting Group, went to Miss Amy Lealiifano from Murdoch University for best presentation of a first APSA paper. Amy’s paper, co-authored with John Pluske, Roland Nicholls, Frank Dunshea and Bruce Mullan, was titled "Altering the timing of an immunocastration vaccine to optimise pig performance”.

Poster Award

The poster award for the best poster at the 2009 conference, sponsored by Ridley Agriproducts Pty Ltd, went to Ms Karen Moore from the Department of Agriculture and Food WA. The topic of Karen’s poster, with co-authors Roger Campbell, Roland Nicholls and Bruce Mullan, was "Entire male and female pigs have different available lysine:energy requirements from 20 to 50 kgs liveweight".

APSA Fellow

The recipient of the 2009 APSA Fellow was Dr Michael Taverner. This award is presented in recognition of those who have made a major contribution to the association.
